**The classification level and pay will be determined based upon experience.
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Coordinator, this position will work as part of a team to provide supervision and program development for after school programs at Redmond Junior High and Rose Hill Junior High. Duties include but are not limited to: planning and leading program activities for junior high students (grades 7 - 9), providing supervision for busy after school drop-in setting (20 – 150 participants per session); ensuring participant safety and enforcing appropriate policies; keeping attendance records; preparing and maintaining program site to include set-up and clean-up; and performing other duties as assigned.
Hours and Duration:
These are supplemental, part-time positions with no benefits. These positions will work approximately 8-12 hours per week, mainly afternoon and evening hours. Hours may vary and include some weekends. Attendance at Parks department staff meetings is also required. Position is limited to 1,040 hours per year.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
developmental levels of junior high aged teens; junior high and recreation program development and implementation; conflict resolution techniques; and under served and at-risk population groups.
Skill in:
teaching and directing activities for youth; organizational skills; verbal and written communication skills; the use of a computer and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
Ability to:
multi-task in a busy and chaotic setting; perform duties as instructed in a work environment with frequent interruptions; effectively communicate to junior high and adult populations; constructively resolve conflicts as needed; provide supervision; enforce policies and procedures; and maintain accurate records.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma is required. Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in Recreation, Education or related field. Leadership experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse teen populations and/or at-risk-youth is required. Bilingual in Spanish desired.
Licenses and Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Valid Washington State driver's license and a driving record that meets City standards are required. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required by date of hire. Must be able to work additional hours beyond regularly scheduled programs for special events.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a school environment, subject to frequent interruptions and potentially stressful situations. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
