Capital Newspapers Portage Division seeks a full-time reporter to join the coverage team for its publications and websites located in Sauk, Columbia and Juneau counties. The position will be based in Baraboo, Wis.
Our newspapers focus on local high school and college sports and local recreational sports (youth and adult). Our division produces five hyper-local newspapers: the six-day Baraboo News Republic, the twice-weekly Wisconsin Dells Events, Reedsburg Times-Press and Juneau County Star-Times, and the weekly Sauk Prairie Eagle. and social media. From time to time, we also provide backup coverage for sister newspapers in the region, including the Wisconsin State Journal and others.
The successful candidate will regularly provide coverage for multiple newspapers within the division. The focus will be on teamwork, collaboration and pitching in across multiple publications. We value a candidate who can be depended upon to satisfactorily and creatively complete each assigned task with a minimum of hand-holding.
Reporting, writing and photography will be focal points of the position. The successful candidate also should be familiar with the basics of page design and computer use, as page design duties may be a secondary part of this position. The successful candidate should have a firm understanding of AP style, accuracy, sports statistics-keeping, interviewing skills and journalistic ethics.
