General Manager, ROOT Sports – Rocky Mountain (#1300031)
The General Manager will be responsible for driving DIRECTV Sports Networks business objectives for the Rocky Mountain region by working closely, in a matrix environment, with the Executive Team. The General Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management in the region. The successful candidate must be a confident and respectful leader with the ability to build support for new ideas and communicate company objectives across all levels of the organization. This position will work closely with the Executive Team in Seattle as well as the regional staff in Denver in these efforts.
This position is based in Denver, CO, will report to the President, and is a member of the Executive Team.
Positively represents the Company and communicates Company vision and direction through active engagement and involvement within the organization and the community
Provides clear and consistent direction while being the point of contact and liaison for all regional efforts with programming partners, the executive team and local staff to ensure that overall business objectives are met and exceeded
Holds individuals and teams accountable by setting clear goals and objectives and ensuring results are achieved through coaching and performance management
Builds a highly collaborative work environment ensuring that the organizations assets (time, money and air time) are spent on the highest priority items for the organization
Actively manages the sales department for the region with effective forecasting and pipeline management, strong goals and measures for attainment, management of deep and lasting relationships with sponsors and partners while meeting and exceeding targets
Actively manages the production functions for the region ensuring that all partner commitments are met and that programming is in support of corporate initiatives
Actively manages the marketing function for the region including setting annual objectives, ensuring that affiliate, sales and production are receiving necessary support and executing on all contractual commitments
With the Finance Director in market ensure accurate and appropriate budgets are set and managed using a thorough personal understanding of the business drivers, partner priorities, revenue opportunities, team deals and commitments to other constituents
Is a passionate, well-recognized leader who can spot, attract and grow talent and ensure an effective succession pipeline within the organization
Provides actionable analysis of competitive approaches and new initiatives
Leverages community relationships to retain business & identify future business opportunities.
Collaborates with regional and executive staff to provide feedback on improving processes and overall business
Shares best practices with other regions and with the Executive Team to promote cross regional adoption and a best in class organization
Bachelors Degree required. MBA or other advanced degree preferred
10 years of related experience, preferably with the majority coming from a media environment
5 years experience with managing employees as well as managing other managers outside of own functional area
Prior experience successfully managing a P&L
Articulate, strategic, and pragmatic problem-solver with ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Strong business acumen, with excellent project management, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to lead matrix teams, projects, and initiatives to a successful result
Highly experienced in effectively communicating with senior management and business partners
Passionate interest in, and knowledge of, regional sports teams — both pro and collegiate
Possess the ability to achieve a buy-in from senior executive stakeholders and execute according to pre-determined parameters
Proven ability to work with all levels of individuals, both internally and externally, with professionalism, discretion, and tact
Analytical and precise in measuring tangible results based on business objectives
Predisposition to learning and knowing the details in all areas of the business
Ability to travel and interface with other parts of the organizations throughout the country
High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite preferred
Prior experience in a sports television environment strongly preferred
