The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee is the Pathways Internship program with on-the-job training and guidance.

Monitors activities within assigned swimming areas. Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior.

Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries.

Assists in cleaning and maintaining the swimming facility.

Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification.

Participates in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability, and certification to perform lifesaving and water rescue, and to administer basic first aid and CPR.

Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualiflying accredited institution

You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program

Meet the qualification standards of the position. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment.

Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)

Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills, and procedures.

Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized basic first aid certification. Position requires pre-employment screening for swimming ability, rescue skills, and CPR skills.

Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized CPR certification which includes adult, child, and infant procedures.

Salary range encompasses base salary and does not include locality. This salary is based on a 40 hour work week.

Participation in required in-service training and maintenance of physical capabilities to perform rescues throughout the period of employment are conditions of employment for this position.

If position is identified as having ?regular contact with children? (e.g., youth swim lessons instructor) in accordance with public law, a criminal background check must be completed.

Some physical exertion is required in effecting a swimming rescue. Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds and over.

Much of the time is spent sitting, standing, or walking; however, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or reaching is required. A physical may be required.

May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays


QUALIFICATIONS: Enrollment in a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) program.

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED (PLEASE ATTACH TO RESUME PACKAGE): A current and valid nationally recognized (1) lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills, and procedures; (2) CPR certification which includes adult, child, and infant procedures; (3) basic first aid certification.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


This position has an education requirement. You MUST provide transcripts or Official Letter of Enrollment to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

The service member's military service dates are necessary in order to determine whether he or she meets the definition of veteran under 5 U.S.C. 2108(1). The certification must reflect the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the date of submission. The certification must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD214 or other appropriate documentation. Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid certification of service with their initial application will be found not eligible. Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave.
