To hire and keep the best employees, Garland provides a great work environment and benefits for employees.n nResponsible for assisting with recreational activities and services for all persons using the Garland recreation centers. nEssential Job FunctionsnProvide information to the public regarding recreation center activities; register participants for classes and activities.nAssist the public via phone or walk-up to give information regarding programs, schedules and other related information.nPerform custodial and customer service to keep the Recreation Center clean, orderly and properly set up for events and activities.nAssist in inventory control of equipment and supplies.nSupervise recreation activities and events.nEnforce and maintain City and Department policies as needed including interpreting and relating department rules and policies to customers.nPreferred Knowledge - Abilities & SkillsnEducation/ Experience:     nn Six months to one year experience in a recreation or sports facilitynnKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:           nn Basic knowledge of a variety of recreation activities and the ability to communicate that knowledge into organized activitiesn Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR proceduresn Basic knowledge of supervision procedures for activities and eventsn Basic knowledge of recreational equipment and correct operationn Basic skill in operating office equipment and personal computern Basic skill in operating equipment and supplies for custodial or technical assignmentsn Ability to work independently of the supervisornnLicenses & Certifications Valid Class C Texas driver's licensenPhysical Tasks & Working ConditionsThe incumbent works typically in both indoor and outdoor environment and may be subjected to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, noise, etc. Physical tasks include heavy lifting, bending, squatting, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies (up to 20 lbs). Shift ranges from 10-20 hours per week and includes evenings and weekends.nCompetenciesAdaptability/Flexibility Communication Customer Service Dependability Personal Organization Productivity Teamwork nMinimum Education & Work Experience  Up to 1 year college coursework in Recreation, Parks or Sports Management Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
