We are currently seeking a Sports and Recreation Director of Business Development in Dallas. As a Sports and Recreation Director of Business Development, you will be responsible for the development of new business, maintaining client contacts, promoting potential client contacts and public relations programs and maintenance of a marketing program that is continually effective and competitive. Prior experience supporting Sports and Recreation market sector required.
Works with group leadership to develop strategic plans focusing on the sports and recreation market sector and strategies for winning work successfully. Responsible for the execution of the strategic plan.
Coordinates marketing strategy for the sports and recreation market in local market and in coordination with other HOK regional practices.
Develops strategies for cultivating prospects and obtaining work at the firm; including specific target markets, individual prospects and project levels.
Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships in the Sports and Recreation arena. Listens for and seeks out new projects which may exist or are being formulated.
Provides leadership for successfully winning projects in the sports and recreation arena.
Initiates continuing market research and leads finding programs appropriate to the sports and recreation market.
Assists leaders in building strong relationships with existing clients and developing same with prospective clients.
Participates in qualifying leads and initiates call program in pursuit of qualified projects.
Assists in monitoring the call program on a regular basis. Assists and/or leads in Go/No Go decision making for project pursuits.
Coordinates with and participates in HOK firm wide marketing and public relations group activities. Participates in periodic marketing conference calls and represents HOK at selected events.
Takes primary responsibility for preparing proposals, coordinating such activities with appropriate management and project manager staff for sports and recreation pursuits.
Provides oversight to marketing staff in the development of standard materials that describe the portfolio, systems, processes and people.
Provides oversight in the preparation of press releases and other materials publicizing assigned projects.
Provides oversight in development of marketing campaigns, materials, webinars, etc. and overall proposal preparation.
Helps formalize standards for project presentations and actively participates in them.
Participates and advises in preparation for interviews and presentations. Provides oversight in coordination of presentation team and presentation materials.
Provides oversight in the preparation of award submittals.
Public speaking may be required.
Encourages staff exploration and innovation to achieve project technical excellence and continual improvement.
Acts as mentor by coaching and motivating teams and individuals; fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust among members of the group as it grows and develops.
May prepares and delivers staff evaluations; may participate in performance development, compensation decision-making and allocation processes of department.
Supports diversity, HOKU programs and develops continuing education opportunities (e.g. site visits, lectures, road trips) to expose staff to influences which will stimulate creativity and innovation.
May participates in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.
Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

Ability to speak the language of marketing and business development for the practice.
Ability to lead teams of individuals on Sports and Recreation marketing pursuits.
Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients.
Proven ability to masterfully present, effectively sell and negotiate the services of HOK.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Bachelors degree in marketing or related discipline; Masters degree preferred.
Prior experience in an architecture/ design firm marketing Sports and Recreation project types.
Excellent client references required.
LEED credential required within 6 months of employment.
