This position is responsible for coaching students in cheerleading techniques to prepare them for events or campus spirit activities. This position motivates students to develop a well rounded commitment to cheerleading while staying academically successful and involved in community and campus partnerships.
*Works with cheerleaders during practices, home sporting events, and campus and community engagement opportunities.
*Holds organizational meetings for team prospects.
*Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
*Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
*Works with the athletics department to identify safe and available facilities for practices.
*Coaches instruct cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
*Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
*Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision when team members are engaged in representing IUPUI.
*Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that minimum eligibility requirements are met.
*Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
*Follows state, regional, and local regulations governing the program.
*Sets an example of proper behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
*Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
*Coordinates with athletic training staff to ensure Athletic Department health and safety protocols are being met.
*Promotes a spirit of nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
*Adheres to NCAA and Horizon League compliance standards.
REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED, plus 1 year experience as a competitive cheerleader coach at a high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Successful candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. Flexibility to travel to Horizon League basketball tournament in Detroit, MI (for 2019; TBD beyond 2019) for up to 5 days in early March.Preferred Qualifications Working Conditions / Physical Demands
