According to Sacramento treasurer Russell Fehr, “crisis conditions demand crisis actions.” And right now, Sacramento may be facing those “crisis conditions.”
It is possible that 500 jobs will cut in the near future, and more furloughs are on the way.
Sacramento treasury manager Leyne Milstein revealed the news during a budget workshop being held by Sacramento mayor, Kevin Johnson, and the Sacramento City Council. He said the office will bepreparing and proposing a city budget that is based on reductions only.
Milstein also said makes sense to contuniue furloughs for unrepresented employees through to the end of this fiscal year. The furloughs in question would save the city $2 million.
The city council also may freeze wages for city employees.
The city has a $284 million discretionary fund to use, according to Milstein.
