Mecklenburg Country, in North Carolina, saw their unemployment rate rise all the way to 8.3 percent in December, a half a percentage point increase from November.

The 8.3 percent amounts to about 37,005 residents of the county who were without work, compared to the county’s labor force of 447,953.

The Charlotte/Gastonia/Concord area saw their unemployment rate soar to 8.9 percent, which was up seven tenths of a percentage point from November.

Unfortunately, some counties experienced it even worse. Here is a list of North Carolina counties and their unemployment rates for November as compared to October:

•Anson: 12.6 percent, up from 11.2 percent.

•Cabarrus: 8.5 percent, up from 7.7 percent.

•Catawba: 10.7 percent, up from 9.7 percent.

•Cleveland: 12 percent, up from 10.6 percent.

•Gaston: 11.4 percent, up from 10 percent.

•Iredell: 9.2 percent, up from 8.1 percent.

•Lincoln: 10.4 percent, up from 9.2 percent.

•Rowan: 9.3 percent, up from 8.6 percent.

•Stanly: 9.5 percent, up from 8.8 percent.

•Union: 8.1 percent, up from 7.5 percent.

Across the state, the unemployment rate was at 8.5 percent in December, which was up from 7.8 percent in November.

North Carolina’s lowest unemployment rate in November belonged to Orange County, which was 4.8 percent. Scotland County’s rate was the highest, at 13.9 percent.
